Remote Insolation Forcing of Orbital‐Scale South Asian Summer Monsoon Variability

چکیده

Abstract Whether the South Asian summer monsoon (SASM) is controlled by local or remote insolation at orbital band remains uncertain. Here, we perform a transient simulation forced Earth's parameters between 400 and 350 ka BP, period characterized significant contrast insolation, to identify SASM's response forcing. Simulation results suggest that primary driver of orbital‐scale SASM variability Northern Hemisphere high‐latitude June as opposed insolation. High in Southern might reduce intensity. Remote influences altering latitudinal thermal gradient and, consequently, meridional position high (SAH). The SAH associated with intense convection hence drives shift intertropical convergence zone rain belt. Thus, strongly related

Impact of variability in the Indian summer monsoon on the East Asian summer monsoon

We report on model experiments that support the hypothesis that the second mode of variability of the East Asian Summer Monsoon is influenced by the variability of the Indian Summer Monsoon. The results suggest that the recent trend towards drier conditions in northern China in summer is, at least partly, a consequence of the synchronous drying trend over India in summer noted by some authors. ...

East Asian summer monsoon precipitation variability since the last deglaciation

The lack of a precisely-dated, unequivocal climate proxy from northern China, where precipitation variability is traditionally considered as an East Asian summer monsoon (EASM) indicator, impedes our understanding of the behaviour and dynamics of the EASM. Here we present a well-dated, pollen-based, ~20-yr-resolution quantitative precipitation reconstruction (derived using a transfer function) ...

Interannual Variability in the Large-Scale Dynamics of the South Asian Summer Monsoon

This study identifies coherent and robust large-scale atmospheric patterns of interannual variability of the South Asian summer monsoon (SASM) in observational data. A decomposition of the water vapor budget into dynamic and thermodynamic components shows that interannual variability of SASM net precipitation (P 2 E) is primarily caused by variations in winds rather than in moisture. Linear reg...
